Vermont's Long Trail
In 1910, 23 people gathered to form the Green Mountain Club. Their goal was to construct a trail over the Green Mountains the entire length of Vermont. This trail was completed in 1930 and runs from the Massachusetts border to Journey's End at the Canadian border. The Long Trail is 270 miles long and has 70 miles of side trails.
There are about 70 Green Mountain Club overnight sites spread no more than a moderate day's hike apart along the Long Trail System.
The famed 400,000 acre Green Mountain National Forest is not only a treasure for those who live here, but to all who visit it each year. It covers almost two-thirds of the state.
It is the home of Vermont's famous Long Trail! |
